Nonprofit Insurance

Nonprofits serve people and causes that matter. Insurance for nonprofits protects your mission, your staff and volunteers, your board, and your events. Lambert Insurance LLC builds policies that reflect how your organization actually operates.

Comprehensive Protection

Running a nonprofit means juggling countless responsibilities while operating on tight budgets, and the right insurance package recognizes these unique challenges. A comprehensive nonprofit policy starts with general liability coverage that protects your organization during fundraising events, volunteer activities, and daily operations - whether someone gets injured at your charity auction or a client is hurt during service delivery.

Directors and officers coverage shields your board members and leadership from personal liability when making tough organizational decisions, while property protection covers your offices, equipment, and donated items from theft, fire, or other covered losses. These foundational coverages ensure that unexpected incidents don't derail your programs or drain funds meant for your cause.

A volunteer is injured while setting up a fundraiser. A donor challenges a board decision. A break-in at your office damages equipment needed for services. The right policy helps you continue your work with minimal interruption.

What Is Covered by Nonprofit Insurance?

Coverage responds to injuries at events, claims tied to board governance, damage to your space or equipment, and certain allegations connected to your programs, all subject to policy terms and underwriting.

Who Needs Nonprofit Insurance?

Charities, community groups, faith-based organizations, clubs, and associations all benefit from nonprofit-specific coverage that understands unique exposures.

Most nonprofits start with General Liability, Property (or Business Personal Property), Directors & Officers (D&O), Workers’ Compensation (if they have employees), and Cyber. Many also consider Employment Practices Liability (EPLI) and coverage for volunteers and special events.

D&O helps protect the organization and its board/leadership from claims alleging mismanagement, breach of duty, or decisions that lead to financial harm. It can cover defense costs and settlements subject to policy terms.

Board members are generally addressed by D&O; volunteers may be included under General Liability for third-party injury or damage. Some nonprofits add Volunteer Accident or endorsement language to clarify protections.

Many policies include incidental events, but larger or higher-risk activities (auctions, 5Ks, alcohol service) may require specific event endorsements or a separate special event policy. Always confirm requirements from venues and municipalities.

If you serve vulnerable populations (youth, seniors, disabled persons), dedicated Abuse & Molestation coverage is critical. Carriers often require background checks, training, and two-adult rules as risk controls.

EPLI addresses claims such as wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation brought by employees, applicants, and sometimes volunteers or third parties, depending on the policy.

Cyber coverage can help with data breaches, ransomware, and payment fraud, including IT forensics, legal counsel, notification, credit monitoring, PR, and business interruption. Pair insurance with MFA, backups, and staff training.
